“The kingdom of heaven may be compared to a king who gave a wedding feast for his son. And he sent out his slaves to call those who had been invited to the wedding feast, and they were unwilling to come” (Matthew 22:2-3).
Despite the limiting claims of a popular theological persuasion it appears God’s gracious invitation is resistable after all. It occurs when individuals find the offerings of this earthly kingdom to be suitable and satisfactory. The only acceptable response to the invitation of a king is participation. To reject His invitation is the most tragic declaration of independence a person can ever make.
