“Gideon was beating out wheat in the wine press in order to save it from the Midianites (Judges 6:11).

This seemingly innocuous statement about the activity of Gideon offers an insight to his character. While the rest of Israel was laid low (v.6) because of the continuing devastation of the Midianites, Gideon, instead of lamenting the circumstances, maximized the opportunities. It’s a reminder that God is not interested in what we might do with what we don’t have, but what we are doing with what we do have.
