“When you see the ark of the covenant of the Lord your God with the Levitical priests carrying it, then you shall set out from your place and go after it. …for you have not passed this way before” (Joshua 3:3-4).
“For you have not passed this way before” is a summary statement that captures well what we are competing against in the ever-continuing struggle to go forward in the life of faith; leaving behind the comfortable and familiar and venturing forth into the unknown. It is the equivalent of, “We have never done it that way before.” The bidding of God’s presence, however, is a call that continually displaces us from where we are to the place he would have us be—a place of dependence on him. Are you going after that place or holding on to what you have?
