“And standing behind Him at His feet, weeping, she began to wet His feet with her tears, and kept wiping them with the hair of her head, and kissing His feet and anointing them with the perfume. …Then He said to her, ‘Your sins have been forgiven’” (Luke 7:38,48).
Guilt is a debilitating form of mental pain that causes great sorrow and anguish. Physicians understand the value of pain; that it is a neurological response to something gone askew. The Great Physician has come, not to deal with the symptom of guilt, but to prescribe grace for the disease of sin that effects such guilt. Grace such as this works effectively for sorrowful sinners only and never for satisfied saints.
