“‘For indeed, the Son of the Man is going as it has been determined; but woe to that man by whom He is betrayed!’ And they began to discuss among themselves which one of them it might be who was going to do this thing” (Luke 22:22-23).
Knowing the rest of the story, our typical response is, “I would never have done what Judas did.” Yet, the reality is that, in some form or fashion, we betray our Lord on a daily basis. By our actions, attitudes, and words, we are either confirming the faith we profess or betraying the One who gave his life and shed his blood. While it may not be with a kiss, such betrayals can be just as deadly to the testimony of our Lord. It’s only as we are willing, like these disciples, to acknowledge that we are capable of such things that we can best guard ourselves against these things.
