“Peter said to Him, ‘Never shall You wash my feet!’ Jesus answered him, ‘If I do not wash you, you have no part with Me’” (John 13:8).
The everyday need to wash one’s feet becomes a parable of our relationship with Jesus. Though his atoning death is sufficient to cover all sins past, present, and future, and brings about our full acquittal, it is a relationship that must be daily visited; sought and received with all humility. The dispensing of his cleansing grace is a gift offered freely and willingly. It’s only as I am mindful daily of my need for God’s grace that I am able to daily offer it to others.
