“And there are also many other things which Jesus did, which if they were written in detail, I suppose that even the world itself would not contain the books that would be written” (John 21:25).
John was selective in his writing. He was inspired to give an account of those things in the life and ministry of Jesus that would lead the reader, or hearing audience, to belief and eternal life (20:30-31). There was much more that could have been written. While today’s text may have been the last sentence John wrote in his gospel, it is not the end of the stories that Jesus continues to write in the life and experiences of his followers even to this day. What Jesus was seeking to accomplish in the life of his disciples then, he is still bringing about today.
