“The Lord turned and looked at Peter. And Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how He had told him, ‘Before a rooster crows today, you will deny Me three times’” (Luke 22:61).
What a contrast. Under the most intense of interrogations, and even in the face of a looming death sentence, our Lord would not renounce his mission, his claims, or his followers. Yet, in the near proximity of the courtyard one of his inner circle was denying any knowledge of him. We, too, understand how easy it is to conceal one’s identity and relationship with the Lord. Even so, our faithful Lord gazes upon us not through eyes of anger, sadness, or vengeance, but rather, just as he did with Peter, he looks upon us with the knowledge of a future renewal and restoration.
