“Now before the Feast of the Passover, knowing that His hour had come that He would depart out of this world to the Father, having loved His own who were in the world, He loved them to the end” (John 13:1).
That Jesus knows is an affirmation of who’s in charge. His fate lies not in the hands of Jewish leaders, Roman officials, or a silver-mongering disciple; nor is it the result of a perfect storm of unfortunate circumstances. His life will not be taken from him. He will lay it down and take it up again. The knowledge of his hour is a recognition of a destiny that transcends this life. Our comfort is that he knows all of this not only about himself, but all those who are called his disciples.
