“So when He heard that he was sick, He then stayed two days longer in the place where He was” (John 11:6).

Having made him aware already (v.3) that the one whom he loved, Lazarus, was sick, we can only imagine the level of frustration and hurt that Jesus’ delayed response must have caused Mary and Martha. Because we understand and interpret life from only our experiences and present desires, it can take some time for faith to forge an understanding of God’s purposes in terms that extend far beyond our need to be delivered from immediate circumstances. His sometime delay to our petitions is always intentioned to his greater glory (v.4).
