ILLUSIONS OF CERTAINTY

06202016-Monday

“Zacharias said to the angel, “How will I know this for certain” (Luke 1:18).

Zacharias has embraced a common assumption; that some particular evidence or body of information will facilitate belief. It doesn’t. Knowledge gives only the illusion of certainty. Clinging to unbelief on the basis of inadequate information is but man’s continuing attempt to stay in control. Belief is accomplished when we determine to trust in the faithfulness of God, instead of trusting only in that which we can understand.
