“Go up to the mountains, bring wood and rebuild the temple, that I may be pleased with it and be glorified, says the Lord. You look for much, but behold, it comes to little; when you bring it home, I blow it away. ‘Why?’ declares the Lord of hosts, ‘Because of My house which lies desolate, while each of you runs to his own house” (Haggai 1:8-9).
It’s only when ambition is turned to building a life that seeks to please and glorify the Lord that any lasting meaning can be realized. Escaping the trap of cultural influence, social accommodation, and personal hedonism requires purposeful activity directed to things of God and the building of his Kingdom. Everything else is but a meaningless going through the motions of living and will not stand the test of time.
