“Immediately Jesus stretched out His hand and took hold of him, and said to him, ‘You of little faith, why did you doubt’” (Matthew 14:31)?
The question posed by Jesus isn’t whether or not Peter had faith, but it was for the purpose of examining the quality of his faith. Knowing that Jesus would later commend faith the size of a mustard seed (Matthew 17:20), we should understand that even a little faith can accomplish much. It was his little faith that got Peter out of the boat when no else would. It was this little faith that took a story beginning with terror and turned into an experience ending in worship. Exercising the littlest of faith will assure its growth.
