“For our citizenship is in heaven, from which we also eagerly wait for a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ” (Philippians 3:20).

Because the surroundings, customs, and language are alien to our sphere of familiarity, international travel is often accompanied by the sensation of being unsettled. By declaring that our citizenship is in heaven, Paul asserts that, as believers, we are strangers in a strange land. The more we grow in faith and the more intimate our relationship with Christ, the more foreign this world becomes and alienated we feel. Don’t get too comfortable. We’re just visiting.
