“They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world” (John 17:16).
The life of faith presents a tension that must be embraced. We are in the world but not of the world. We are the salt of the earth, the light of the world, and sheep in the midst of wolves. Even so, we are not rooted here; this world does not have our heart, nor does it control our thoughts. Yet our mission necessitates engagement. It is the height of hypocrisy to pursue a life of faith apart from the world. If it is not practical and applicable to life, good theology is useless.
