“And the one on whom seed was sown among the thorns, this is the man who hears the word, and the worry of the world and the deceitfulness of wealth choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful” (Matthew 13:22).
The greatest threat to a professing Christian living in the western world isn’t persecution but prosperity. The affluence afforded us, in comparison to the rest of the world, can easily skew our perspective and decision-making processes. Instead of the full counsel of God’s word informing how kingdom-life is to be lived, we cherry-pick bible verses that support and justify the lifestyle we have already decided to pursue. We dupe ourselves into believing that the Kingdom of God and the kingdom of men can co-exist with one another.
