“‘Vanity of vanities,’ says the Preacher, ‘Vanity of vanities! All is vanity’” (Ecclesiastes 1:2).
This repeated declaration captures a perspective on life that is void of meaning. To hold this attitude on the routines of daily life indicates that the “why” for living has yet to be discovered. For the faith community, the “why” of everything we do is to bring honor and glory to the Lord Jesus, and the call he has placed upon our lives. It is this desire, “Not to us, O Lord, not to us, but to Your name give glory” (Ps. 115:1) that gives both mission and meaning to the fulness of our days; from our rising up to our laying down. This “why” drives who we are, what we do, and where we go in life.
