“Jesus summoned His twelve disciples and gave them authority over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal every kind of disease and every kind of sickness” (Matthew 10:1).
During his earthly ministry, Jesus wanted his disciples to do the very things he was doing (See 9:35). In the midst of so many false claimants decreeing they were the Christ, the miracles being performed by Jesus, and now his disciples, are central to building the case that he is the Christ. It was a unique window of opportunity, preceding the written Word—the greatest gift of the disciples. Before his ascension, the task given to his disciples would become our Great Commission—to disciple, baptize, and teach.
