“However, let’s keep living by that same standard to which we have attained” (Philippians 3:16).
When something is established as the standard, it becomes a basis for comparison; a reference point by which other things are measured. Our standard in the life of faith is the upward call of God in Christ Jesus, and our hungered chase of that goal (v.13-14). The life to which we have been called is not a pursuit driven by subjective “spiritual” whims and personal preferences. It is objectively defined by the person of Jesus Christ, his teachings, and the inspired sacred text of scripture. By this alone is the progress of our maturity (v.15) measured.
