“For I long to see you so that I may impart some spiritual gift to you, that you may be established” (Romans 1:11).

Paul has been praying much for the church in Rome, and his desire to gather with them (v.8-10). Though he didn’t found the church in Rome, the language of friendship prevails, “For I long to see you.” Praying such as this creates a desire to gather with the people of God for the right reason—“that I may impart some spiritual gift to you.” Not that the church in Rome was lacking,  but unless every member of the body of Christ is offering their giftedness in service to the Lord, the church will never accomplish all that she could.
