AN EFFECTUAL FAITH

“for a man’s anger does not bring about the righteousness of God” (James 1:20).

Human anger does produce or bring about the righteousness of God, and is, in fact, a contradiction to the justice God is seeking to accomplish (3:13-4:12). That Jesus judges and concerns himself with the effect of our lives is evident in, both, his condemnation of those who practice lawlessness (Mt.7:23), and his commendation of those who do good (Mk.14:6). John’s gospel repeatedly highlights the effects of faith as the evidence of God’s working (Jn.3:21, 5:17, 6:28-29, 9:4). Even Paul would highlight faith’s effect (Romans 2:10, 13:10). James is clear, anger has the opposite effect of faith.
